Distinguished Restaurants of North America, founded in 1990, is a non-profit organization governed by an independent board of directors.
The  Award Program was launched in 1992 and is awarded to restaurants exemplifying the highest quality standards in all aspects of the dining experience, thus
"The Award Of Excellence".
award qualification requires a restaurant to be in business under the same ownership for three years and pass a 75-point evaluation conducted by trained industry professionals. |

The recipient retains The Award for three years by maintaining all requirements and standards of excellence and is then re-inspected.
Distinguished Restaurants of North America's mission is to preserve and promote the ultimate in distinguished dining throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
