My parents and I immigrated to Louisville, KY in 1997 from Andizan, Uzbekistan. I grew up in a large family where food was always around. Growing up in my grandparent's house was always different. Sunday was a special day where I spent time with my family at the dinner table.
I was responsible for assisting in the preparation of the family meal. ONe of my tasks was to make the salad. For this course, I would head to the garden and grab fresh tomatoes, green onions, cucumbers, and parsley. To reward me for my help, my grandmother would always add something special to the dish she was preparing. Cooking-out was also a tradition in my family, especially in the summer time. We would grill kebabs, make soups, and prepare the national Uzbek dish called Plov, all on an open fire. As I grew older, my passion for food intensified because I was able to celebrate my family memories by creating and enjoying these dishes from my heritage.
